Acutus Medical, based in San Diego, U.S.A. is a global heart rhythm technology company that has developed the AcQMap system that maps Atrial Fibrillation (“AF”) and other complex arrhythmias. The system identifies the mechanism of those arrhythmias and provides a guide for ablation therapy. Acutus has pioneered a new and novel approach using minimally invasive Dipole Density technology, generating high resolution, real-time, 3D images of the heart.
Globally, in excess of 10 million people are afflicted with AF. Pharmacological therapy is the most common current treatment option, but expensive and often inadequate, palliative in nature and does not cure AF. Catheter ablation is another option, which treats AF percutaneously and has a higher rate of success than drug therapy. Specialised catheters deliver focused energy into the tissue of the heart, burning the heart tissue to induce scarring and eliminate the tissue that causes abnormal electrical signals.
The AcQMap system revolutionises the way electrophysiologists diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias using the catheter ablation therapy option.
